Sweet Falls

The fall is known for its simple though beautiful elegance. The water falling from the fall resembles a straight pencil of water flowing out from a huge water pipe. The water drops at a vertical distance of more than 315 feet. The creek on which the fall is located is a profound narrow upstream of the fall. The isolation and beauty at the base of the fall make it an ideal location for natural relaxation. The region is frequently visited by adventure lovers and picnickers who trek a considerable distance to reach here. Sweet Falls is a gorgeous waterfall situated near Happy Valley in Shillong, Meghalaya. Also called as Kshaid Weitden, it is one of the stunning waterfalls in Meghalaya and among the popular places to visit in Shillong. Falling from a height of 315 feet, the Sweet Falls is unbroken and the waterfalls down with a tremendous force. The milky white stream and the surrounding green vegetation make it one of the most scenic waterfalls in Shillong. Naturally, the force of the water makes it impossible to bath or stand directly underneath the falls. Often referred to as 'most beautiful' yet 'most dangerous' waterfall in Shillong, tourists are prohibited to enter into the waterfall but can be seen from a viewpoint near Happy Valley. Numerous suicides and accidental falls have occurred at the sweet falls. The locals firmly believe that the fall is haunted. In fact people say that 'go in groups of odd numbers to the sweet falls and you will return in groups of even numbers'. This myth was busted as there was no proper barricading that resulted in the fatal accidents. Presently, the signboards have been installed for the safety of the visitors. It is a must-visit tourist attraction in Shillong especially for nature lovers and photographers. The view is mesmerizing during monsoons because the flow and width of Sweet Falls get doubled.
