Dear bhushanmarathe,
regards!
A.
You can easily do this. In fact I have rode my bike several time from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar and back via Pune. But then please understand that this is TOO RISKY. If you could not concentrate and be always alert while riding the bike, please AVOID this. And as traffic is dense on the route, why take risks? You may be very alert and safe driver but you can not vouch for other drivers. Secondly there are few ghat sections on the route. Very steep and blind curves at few points will put pressure on you. If and if only you have ample experience of riding through the ghats and long rides, go with your bike. And you have mentioned this is going to be your first long ride...............
B.
If you decide to drive: ( some day you need to take a long ride .....right?)
1. make sure your bike is in top conditiion. Get it serviced properly from authorised people. And at least a week before you plan to go. Drive carefully after servicing and note if there is any change in settings etc. Get everything in shipshape condition.
2. Make sure you have re-fuelled properly. Start with full tank. And do refuel before it reaches reserve state. Particularly before you leave the Kolhapur highway for Mahabaleshwar. You can refuel at Wai town if you feel like not refuelling on the highway. There are not petrol pumps once you leave Wai town till Mahabaleshwar.
3. Wear a bright jacket / track suit while riding. Helmet is MUST.
4. Ride at reasonable speeds. Never over-speed what ever be the reasons. Remember this is your first long ride. It may take more time but it is very fine if you reach safely late than NEVER. If possible - keep to the left most side of the road always.
5. And please be in touch with your people always. Call them every half an hour or so and let them know where are you and how are doing. It is very important for the family to know this. And useful for you to take a break every 30 minutes or so. Switch off the machine. Get down from the bike and call them. It may take at the most 2 minutes but very important to maintain your alertness and concentration. By the time you will reach Mahabaleshwar, you will be stiff and sore all over your body. So the break is important.
6. Do not eat heavy food stuff. And no fruit juices, too. Fruits are okay. Idlis are nice. A sandwich is okay, too. Munch some nuts or keep munching while riding. And take in as much water as possible. Keep your self hydrated - little bit more hydrated than normal.
7. In ghat sections be very very alert and keep watching for incoming traffic. Give way to the vehicles who wish to overtake you but at proper places. And please use your hands alongwith bike signals to show your intentions - turns / stops etc.
Route : from Pune get on to Kolhapur highway - Katraj ghats sections - Kapurwahal village - Shirwal village ( famous for figs - anjeeers) - Surul phata. At Surul take a right turn for Wai town. From Wai through ghats ( Pasarani ghats) to Panchagani - a few kms further is Mahabaleshwar city. Total travel may be about 125 kms or so.
Wish you a happy and memorable tour - if you decide to go!!

Hi Siddharth,
Some of the popular excursions situated near the city include Shivneri Fort, Sinhagad Fort, Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves, etc. The following are the places which you can see around pune.
Bhaja Caves:- Bhaja Caves are one of the popular Buddhist caves in India, which are situated in the Aurangabad District of Maharashtra. The caves, lying 60 km from Pune city, are believed to date back to as far back as the 2nd century, when the Theravadin phase of Buddhism was still in its earliest stages.
Bhimashankar Temple:- Bhimashankar Temple is situated in Maharashtra and claims the distinction of being one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. Lying at a distance of approximately 128 km from the Pune city, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the Hindu Trinity of Gods.
Janjira Fort:- Janjira Fort is situated in the Murud town of Maharashtra. Infact, the Island Fort serves as one of the major attractions of the town. Murud served as the erstwhile capital of the Siddi rulers of Janjira in the earlier times. Today, Janjira is counted amongst the few sea forts of India and lies 2 km inside the town.
Karla Caves:- Karla Caves are situated in the Aurangabad quite near to the Bhaja Caves. They fall on the Pune-Mumbai Road and are approximately 40 km from the heart of Pune.
Murud JanjiraBeach:- Murud Janjira Beach, being located around 190 km from the Pune city of India, forms one of its most popular attractions. The beach is situated near the Janjira Fort, an impregnable fortress that refused to surrender before the enemy forces for as many as 350 years. I will advice you to visit this place.
Raigad Fort:- Raigad Fort is a magnificent hill fortress, situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It lies approximately 125 km away from Pune and serves as one of the major excursion of the city.
Shivneri Fort:- Shivneri Fort is one of the most magnificent as well as historically rich forts of India. It is situated at a distance of approximately 90 km from the Pune city of Maharashtra.
Sinhagad Fort:- Adding to the attraction of the Pune city is the Sinhagad Fort, which lies in the vicinity of the city. The height at which the fort stands has resulted in its being very popular.

Dear KTJ59,
regards!
It is very difficult to pinpoint this. As tastes and choices differ, the best for me can be the worst for you. And there is nothing so special about non-veg meals in Mahabaleshwar. The dishes are something similar to what you may find in Mumbai or Pune. And please remember that Mahabaleshwar was never known for "fish" dishes. So avoid - fish. You may get chicken dishes in good form.
Let me try: try hotels near ST depot ( market road end near ST depot ). These provide tandoori chicken which is good. If you can find ( ask around the market area) "khanaval"- a place which provides food prepared in a home by house owner( this is small eatery with tasty options but please do not expect hi-fi service or several food options and even no bislery water) - try dishes here. There are few extremely good "khanavals" in Mahabaleshwar. Tastes keep differing hence normally the best khanaval houses change the ratings on season to season basis. Ask tax drivers ( local) and you will get correct directions to such place.

The best way to explore Mahabaleshwar in short time is hire a vehicle and visit all the points in a day. And then in the rest of your stay, you can re-visit the points you liked most.
Following points are worth visiting:
Wilson Point
Also called as Sunrise point. The highest point.
Elphiston point
The first point overlooking two valleys, koyna on the left & savitri on the right.
Castle Rock
On the way to the Arthur's seat shows savitri valley.

This is also an old temple. The carving in the stones of the columns & the ceiling is attractive.
And ofcourse, don't forget to stroll through the market place several times in your stay. Mahabaleshwar is famous for the leather footwear. Bargain hard. You will also find wood sculpture articles in market.
Weather will be pleasantly cool ( when you are in shade and during night time), bit harsh Sun when you stroll in open during afternoons. No rains at this point of time.
Good Day !!!
Dear Randheer4512,

In Mahabaleshwar , you can visit few of the many "points". Ofcourse not all the points are worth a visit and not all the points are kids friendly.
From kid's point of view:
visit Venna lake. Lots of activities here including boat ride, joy rides, horse rides, eating joints etc.
Visit markets. The bazar at Mahabaleshwar is famous for leather items and there are lots of footwear and other items for kids, too.
Visit Old Mahabaleshwar for those ancient temple. Kids love these empty places a lot and you get to see old sculptures etc.
Visit a strawberry field. Let your kid pick up berries and eat there. Few farmers do allow this.
Visit Panchgani for hugh table top land and horse rides there. There is a small hotel in a cave just under the table top. Kids definitely like this concept. There is a kid park nearer Panchgani.
If possible visit Mapro production facility. They make chocolates and candies. Kids love to have a look at this process and ofcourse love to buy a lot of candies at their company outlet.
Wish you happy and memorable holidays!!

Mid-June means most probably there will be rains. If these are first showers, there will be very cold atmosphere in Mahabaleshwar but very clean air. If not, still Mahabaleshwar will be cool but bit hot during midday time. Nights will be cool. Hope for the rains by the time you reach there. Personally I prefer Mahabaleshwar during monsoons.
Dear Jigs you have selected very wrong time to visit Mahableshwar as june to september Mahableshwar is virually closed because of heavy rains. Mahableshwar on an average receive150-200 inches of rain.
The road to mahableshwar via mahad is closed while road via pune satara wai is open. since its monsoon period all the hotels are vacant . Mahableshwar is full of hotels of all kinds and you can have a very cheap rates . if you are vegetarian rajesh, dreamland valley view, fountain panorama are good hotels while if you are looking for non veg hotel then anarkali, fredrick and dina are the best.

Dear Dipak
regards!
From Pune, Mahabaleshwar is about 120 kms by road. It is a 3 hour drive at the most.
From Pune, get on NH4 ( highway to Kolhapur ). After Katraj khind - keep on travelling till you reach Surul diversion. From here you should take a turn to Wai town. From Wai town, soon you will be in ghat sections ( well known as Pasarni Ghat ). Drive very cautiously as the ghat section is a continuous ascend and lots of traffic on this road. Soon you will be in Panchagani town - a twin hill station of Mahabaleshwar. Keep on driving for about 20 kms and you will be in Mahabaleshwar town.
Things to do :
Visit Venna lake as many times as you wish, beautiful spot with lots of horse riding and boat riding available here.
Strawberry farms for fresh berries ( if you are in season ).
Many tourist spots in Mahabaleshwar
Pratapgad - well known fort from Shivaji era on Mahad road.
OId Mahabaleshwar for ancient rock cut temples, Bazar road for all the noise and some real bargain shopping. Leather footwear is well known. Panchagani for hugh table land.
So far as accomodations are concerned, there are lots of choices here, from ultra luxury to modest to "bed and breakfast" units. My fav is Hotel Aaram near to bazar areas but away from the noise on Satara road. It is old ( started in 1946 ) with lots of spaces and very fine meals ( veg only ) experience.
Please get into touch with IndiaHotelReview people for accomodation arrangements as well as more info on the same.
MTDC is good but is far away from the central place. Tedious to travel all the time back to the central place.
Wish you a very happy and memorable anniversary.
Dear sir,
Thanks for your query, below i would like to suggest you decent Hotels in Mahabaleshwar.

Hi Sanjay pol,
Mahabaleshwar is one of the most spectacular and the largest of Maharashtra's hill-stations.
Thanks!
Dear Shivish
regards!
There are several tourist interest points like sunset point (Bombay point), Wilson point, Elphinston point, Arthur's seat etc.
There is a bee keeping centre, a working honey processing co-op society ( worth a visit ), Potato research centre, Venna lake ( most popular point ). There are ancient, carved rock temples in Old Mahabaleshwar ( do visit for the ambiance of the place ). Ofcourse the bazar is a bustling road and good to even window shopping.
Pratapgarh is about 25 kms away, keep half a day to visit this Shivaji era fort.
Visit Panchgani about 15 kms away for table land and a refreshment house based in cave.
There are many resorts and hotels catering to all ranges in Mahabaleshwar. Personally I prefer a most authentic Mahabaleshwar relic ( started in 1946 ) with vast open areas and a very comfy and nice eating place ( veg only ). "Hotel Aaram" is walking distance away from the bus stand through the bazar road. Still it is away from all the noise. It provides standard, deluxe and AC rooms. Tariffs range between Rs.300/- to Rs.4000/-.
Surya retreat is a good property but about 5 kms away from the main areas and costly.
Valley view is near market and a nice property with charges ranging between Rs.2100/- to 5000/- depending upon the amenities and season.
Best way for booking the hotels and getting all the info will be to contact IndiaHotelReview people.
Wish you happy and memorable holidays in Mahabaleshwar.Dear RathoreRaj,
regards!
Mahabaleshwar has several " points " which tourists visit. Ofcourse not all of them are breathtaking. Visit well know points preferably during late afternoons so that u can enjoy the sunset at Bombay Point, too.
Visit Old Mahabaleshwar. Two very ancient and magnificent temples there. High on list of pilgrimage tourists, too.
Venna Lake is a happening place in Mahabaleshwar. Enjoy evenings there. Horse riding and boat riding alongwith fresh corns ( bhutta) is a regular done thing here.
Pratapgad is a well known fort of Hon Shivaji Maharaj. To know and experience the history - visit this. On Mahabaleshwar to Mumbai road about 35 kms from Mahabaleshwar. Start early morning. Requires atleast half a day visit. Enjoy Jhunka-Bhakar and buttermilk here as snack / lunch -best!
Panchagani is a twin of Mahabaleshwar and about 12 kms towards Wai town. Hugh tableland is the only attraction. Nearby is a MAPRO garden and manufacturing setup. Do visit to see how they operate and make those candies.
Visit the honey processing co-operative effort in Mahabaleshwar town , see their operations and do buy few exotic varieties of honey. Very nearby and walking distance from bus depot.
Visit one of the strawberry farms and enjoy fresh berries as well as juice. Real fun.
Visit "Tapola" for boat rides in deep backwaters of Koyna dam. Long winding road in ghat sections will take you there. Start in the afternoons so that you can reach and enjoy evenings there. But again start for the city at the earliest. Low volume of traffic on this road and there are no facilities for vehicle repairs makes the travel bit anxious.
Shopping is a pleasure particularly if you are looking for leather footwear. Mahabaleshwar is known for these. Many varities of sherbets ( bottled ) are great.
Wish you a very happy time there.

There are lots of tourist spots ( points as they say) in the area. Not all are worth visiting.
Visit Wilson Point, Arthur seat, Bombay point. Then visit Old Mahabaleshwar for ancient temples, Venna lake , markets for shoppoing ( particularly leather items ).
Panchgani is about 12 kms away. Nothing much there except a hugh tableland.
If you have time, try visiting Dhom dam ( from Wai town)- requires half a day.
Visit Pratapgarh. Hugh fort on Mumbai road.
Wish you happy and memorable moments there.

2.Arthur's Seat
Queen of all points. It is facinating to see the barren deep valley Savitri on the left & shallow green valley on the right. If you go by the steps you come across a spring known as Tiger's spring which is supposed to be the source of the river Savtri.
Immidiately below the seat is window point. You have to go deep by steps to reach the window point.
Kates Point: Offers breathtaking view of krishna valley & deep waters of the dhom dam. From southern side it looks like an elephants head. There is also an echo point.

Dear GopalBhargava4,
regards!
There are no special eating places in Mahabaleshwar. You will get everything that you get in any city.
Ofcourse fresh strawberry juice is becoming a special thing. You can enjoy it when you are moving around and visit some strawberry fields in and around Mahabaleshwar.
Aaram Hotel provides typical maharashtrian veg meals. Most of the times their eating hall is full to the capacity.
Imperial provides beautiful sponge cakes.
Finding local dishes is too difficult. Please ask around for "khanaval" - eating place run by domestic people on a small scale. You will find local dishes here.
If you visit Pratapgad, enjoy Pithale-Bhakar / jhunka bhakar and buttermilk - local delicacy here.

Hi,
By Road:- From Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is 285 km (via Pune route) and the distance is about 247 km (via Mahad route). There are regular state-operated buses that travel to Mahabaleshwar from the nearby cities of Pune and Mumbai. Private tour operators also provide various luxury/ non-luxury, AC/Non-AC, Deluxe and Volvo buses and other vehicles to and from Mahabaleshwar. You can even drive your own vehicle to Mahabaleshwar, enjoying its idyllic beauty, as the roads are excellent. It takes around 5 hrs to reach Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai by road.
Places to Visit at Mahabaleshwar:-
Mahabaleshwar Temple :- The hill station derives its name from the presiding deity "Mahabali", of this famous Hindu temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is girdled by a five feet tall stone wall on its sides and is divided into a God-chamber and a central hall. The main site of worship is a 'lingam' (black stone), considered to be the manifestation of the Divinity. A landmark of Mahabaleshwar, this temple is frequented by locals and religious tourists throughout the year.
Waterfalls :- The various waterfalls flowing through the heart of the place form a crucial part of its sightseeing tour. These gurgling waterfalls heighten the beauty of the place and are a source of instant attractions among the tourists.
Venna Lake :- Venna Lake is a popular lake of Mahabaleshwar, because of its verdure surroundings and sparkling water. With a length of 2.5 m and the availability of boating and fishing facilities, the lake allows people to enjoy the placidness of its water, while feasting on nature's bounty. There are also strawberry stalls that surround the place, with ponies trotting nearby. This makes it very popular among tourists, especially children.
Wilson Point :- Mahabaleshwar has about 30 major lookout points that offer breathtaking view of the entire landscape, with Wilson being the most popular among them. Also known as the Sunrise Point, the place is well-known amongst the locals and the tourists for offering splendid views of the sunrise and sunset.

Mahabaleshwar is the queen of hill stations in Maharashtra. Hence expect the weather to be much cooler, particulary from late evenings till early mornings. Sometimes the mercury reaches 3 to 4 degrees, too. Please carry few woollens with you. Else the atmosphere is pleasant all the time. January is almost over now so I guess you might be planning for February visit to the hill station. It is a good season to be in Mahabaleshwar.
Mahabaleshwar has many good spots where you two can spend quality moments. If you can spare some more time try to be at Pratapgad fort - nice location but bit exhausting, too. Discuss with you spouse before you plan to be at Pratapgad.
Wish you a very happy married life and happy moments at Mahabaleshwar.

Dear Mohitchand,
You have not mentioned at what time of the year you wish to be in Mahabaleshwar. Please do so.
Weather is excellent and cool all around the year. In monsoons, with lots of rains and thundering showers it becomes very cold but then to be in Mahabaleshwar during rains is the ultimate experience.
During summer heat, it is pleasantly cool during nights and early mornings. During afternoons most of the times the mercury reaches 30 degrees or so. If you are planning to be there during May or summers, avoid being outdoor in the afternoons.
During winters, the town is cold to pleasant cool.
But it is a nice place to be in for honeymoon - whatever be the time of the year.

Dear,
regards!
If you are in Pune and travelling to Mahabaleshwar, you need not take a break in between. You can easily drive within max 4 hours to the town from Pune.
In between Pune and Mahabaleshwar there are very few places to stay except the roadside resorts or so. No big town in between. If you are driving long distance and need to take a break, take it in Pune itself.
Mahabaleshwar boasts of many tourist points - all withing easy reach of each other ( and you have your vehicles, too). Old Mahabaleshwar is known for ancient sculptured temples. Venna lake is the most happening place in the town and nice, too.
Around town, Pratapgad fort is one of the best spots ( about 30 kms away on Mumbai road but entire travel is in ghat section). Spare at least half a day and start early in the morning for the fort.
Panchagani is almost a twin town of Mahabaleshwar located on Pune road and about 15 kms from Mahabaleshwar. Nothing great here except the tableland on the top of Panchagani.
If you have got lots of time, try stopping at Wai town, famous for ghats on Krishna river and the Ganesh mandir ( Dholya ganapati ). Few kms away is Dhom dam and the ancient temple there. If possible, take a turn at Menavali village for palace of Nana Phadanvis ( famous Peshwai personality) and visit the Krishna ghats at the back of the palace, too. Rarely people visit this ( actually very few people are aware of this)
Wish you happy holidays.

Dear Parag,
Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar via Mahad is 220 kms & Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar is 20 kms.
thanks!
regards!
- You can get onto the Mumbai - Pune expressway at Panvel. Continue travelling on the Banglore bye-pass ( the same expressway by another name in Pune) - cross the Katraj khind. Travel till Wai town. From here on cross the Pasarni Ghats sections which will take you to Panchgani town. Continue travel for another half hour and you will be in Mahabaleshwar. This is a longer route but you can maintain a good speed.
- Alternately you can travel on Mumbai to Goa highway. From Panvel the major towns enroute are Pen - Nagothane - Kolad naka - Indapur - Mangaon - Mahad - Poladpur. At Poladpur leave the highway and take a left turn for Mahabaleshwar. You will be crossing the Ambenali ghat sections - a long and curvy mountainous route so be very alert and cautious while you drive. The ghat section ends in Mahabaleshwar city. Total travel time will be about 7 hours max from Dadar till Mahabaleshwar.
There are several points around Mahabaleshwar. You can ask for directions once you reach there. But Venna lake is breathtaking. Visit Panchagani ( hilltop plains ). If possible visit Pratapgad- bit tiring climb from the base but nice views from the top + historical fort. Try taking a guide here if this is your first visit. The fort is on Poladpur - Mahabaleshwar road and well known.

Dear rudra,
regards!
Mahabaleshwar is a small town but it is Queen of the hillstations in Maharashtra.
Since you are taking your vehicle, it is easier for you to visit various spots in and around the hill station.
1.
There are several "point" in Mahabaleshwar. But then the points really worth visiting are Bombay Point ( sunset), Arthur seat point ( best )etc. But then you can easily visit all the points within half a day.
2.
Venna lake - the most happening place in Mahabaleshwar apart from the markets.
3.
Market - ( bazzar ). Though not exactly a very large place ( it is a small section of a road). But variety is the key. Mahabaleshwar is famous for leather footwear ( if you really know leather well - purchase).
4.
Pratapgad
Magnificent fort abt 25-30 kms away from the town. Keep half a day aside. If you visit early morning - better. Lot of climb. This is on Mahad ( towards Mumbai ) road.
5.
Panchagani
Abt 10-15 kms on. Nothing much except "table land". Twin hill staion actually.
6.
Wai town - at the base of the hills on Deccan plateu side- on Pune road. Better known for ghats on Krishna river and a hugh Ganesh idol.
Also few kms from the town is the Dhom dam ( you can view this while passing through the Panchagani garden.) - there is a beautifully carved ancient temple. Just few kms before the dam is Menavali village. If possible visit the Palace of Nana Phadanvis- the Maratha figure in Peshwai. Mastani ( as in Bajirao-Mastani) was here for some time. The ghats on Krishna here are something which can not be described easily. Too exquisite.

Dear bhargavmehta,
regards!
How are you going to reach Mahabaleshwar? Few spots are enroute, that's the reason for my counter-querry.
If you are going from Pune side:
1. Visit Wai town ( for old Ganapati mandir as well as Mastani icecream). Visit the Dhom dam ( a very ancient temple with lots of rock cut designs there). Menavali is famous for the palace of Nana Phadanvis as well as ghats on Krishna river ( just few kms before the Dhom dam)
2. Panchagani town : nothing spectacular here except the hugh table land atop the town.
3. Old Mahabaleshwar : for again old temples and village feel.
4. Market in the heart of Mahabaleshwar city. Few points like Bombay Point ( sunset view) and tiger point. Most of the points are not exactly outstanding.
5. Venna lake: another happening place in Mahabaleshwar.
6. Pratapgad : abt 30 kms from the Mahabaleshwar city. One of the historical and King Shivaji time fort.
If you are travelling from Mumbai via Mahad city ( Kokan highway), Pratapgad fort should be your first destination. Visit this and then travel further to Mahabaleshwar.
Wish you happy and memorable holidays there.

Dear rbpchow,
regards!
Mahabaleshwar is the Queen of hillstations in Maharashtra. Good choice for honeymoon, I say.
There are several places in and around Mahabaleshwar worth a visit. Few of these are:
1. Old Mahabaleshwar : for ancient temples
2. Market place
3. Venna Lake
4. Several points around the town. Personally I don't like visiting those a lot. Only the Sunset point(Bombay point) and Arthur Seat seems good.
Around:
1. Pratapgad , the fort: about 25 kms away. Nice but exhausting. Keep half a day aside if you are visiting this.
2. Panchagani: nothing much is there except the hugh table land atop.
3. Wai town : at the base of mountain range. Old temples and Mastani icecream. Enroute just before the ghat section ends, a large silk manufacturing centre. Also a head for Dhom dam ( earthen dam )built on Krishna river. And old beautifully carved temples around. Village Menavali, known for the palace of Nana Phadanvis has beautiful ghats on Krishna river. Mastani was housed in this palace for few months. The area is away from Mahabaleshwar but if you wish to experience something less crowded and exotic, this is the place.
Wish you happy memories!

And Drive from Shirwal to Panchgani takes about 1.1 hours by car.
Dear shreyass,
From Panchgani, travel on Wai road. You will be passing through the Pasarani ghats before Wai town comes. From Wai, go to Surur naka on Pune to Kolhapur road. Travel towards Pune city on NH4. Soon you will come to Shirwal.
Just some distance ahead is a road to Bhor town / village. Bhatghar dam is nearby. If you miss this turn to Bhor, no problem. Continue till u reach Kapurhol on NH4. Take a turn here and continue till you reach the dam. Actually this road is more in use.
Take care while you are in ghat sections as well as on NH4. Lots of turns and tight corners in ghat sections and lots of traffic on NH4.

First of all, I could not understand your question clearly.
Do you wish to know how to reach Mahabaleshwar from Silvassa or you wish to know about reaching various points in Mahabaleshwar once you reach there. Am giving both the informations to you.
1. Reaching Mahabaleshwar.
I assume that you will reach Mumbai city from Silvassa. From Mumbai you can travel to Mahabaleshwar by road. ( There are no train corridors to reach there.) There are several bus services ( both private as well as MSRTC i.e. ST bus)plying to Mahabaleshwar.

You can travel through the Mumbai - Goa national highway till Poladpur and take a left turn for Mahabaleshwar or you can travel through Mumbai - Pune expressway till Pune and continue on Bangalore highway till Surul phata ( after Katraj ghat section. At Surul take a right turn to Wai town. Continue on Pasarnai ghat section and soon you will be in Panchgani. Continue further and you will be in Mahabaleshwar city.
2. Points in Mahabaleshwar.
There are several points to visit in the area. But the most easily reachable and famous are Venna lake, Old Mahabaleshwar ( ancient temples here),strawberry gardens, Mapro fruit processing unit ( bit away), Panchgani town and Pratapgad fort ( on Mahad road).
You can hire a private vehicle in the town at taxi stand. If you are visiting Pratapgad ( a magnificent fort) please keep aside more time ( a half day atleast) for the same. Hiring taxi is the best way to visit various points.
Wish you happy moments in Mahabaleshwar.

Dear Pappan,
Mahableshwar overall has only one Road which goes from Point to Point> normally those who do not come by their own vehicles take a guided Tour from cab while those who come on their own visit as per their convinience . all points are located at not more than 5-10 minutes Driving distance and whole Mahableshwar and panchagani tour can be completed in one day keeping aside Boating and shopping.
Good Day.
Dear pappan,
Koyana valley is a very large geographical area, spans from Kokan on one side to Satara on the other and Mahabaleshwar makes the third side. The backwaters of Koyna river are stretched to almost 70+ kms from the dam site.
I presume, you are visiting Tapola, the water sports centre on Koyna which is accessible from Mahabaleshwar.
If you are not going by your own vehicle, very simple way is hire a taxi at the market in Mahabaleshwar. Tapola is a great place for boating in deep backwaters of Koyna dam. About 30 kms from the Mahabaleshwar city. You can start late in the noon and return by the evening.
If you are going by your own vehicle, take care. The road to Tapola is bit narrower and winding. There are many turns, few very risky. While going to Tapola, the road winds down for most of the time but returning will be uphill drive all the way. You can't miss the road or go wrong as there is only 1 Tapola near Mahabaleshwar. Hence you do not need detailed and comprehensive directions. Just ask in the market place and take on the road.
Wish you happy moments there!

Nagarpalika Housing society is in proper Mhableshwar Market and it will tak you not more tha 10 minutes to reach from wilsonpoint or Sunrise point.Wilson Point, which is otherwise known as the Sunrise point, is a vast plateau. One can view the sunrise from the three masonry round platforms. The second platform which is about 1 km away from the market area of Mahabaleshwar is the ideal place to view the sun rise. The platform is perfectly located at 4735 feet above sea level and is the highest point in Mahabaleshwar.
The Wilson Point is a vast barren rock with three watching towers at different spots. The point is a tourist attraction with its beautiful view point of the sunrise.

Dear abhimanyurajput,
I always prefer " Aaram Hotel" for stay. It is old property with lots of open spaces around, giving a royal feelings. Nearby Market place ( you can actually walk easily even from the ST stand through the market road, hardly 5 to 7 minutes walk. You can walk to Venna lake from the backside road ( there is a short cut there - do ask for the same.). Food is great ( veg only options ).
Hotel Surya Retreat is costly but nice place ( A grade ) but almost 5 kms away from the ST Stand and market.
MTDC runs a nice property, too but this is way away from the market areas and secluded area.
There are few good options under "bed and breakfast" scheme from MTDC in the town. Please enquire at MTDC, Mumbai. These are homely feel palces and authorised by MTDC after scrutiny.
Wish you happy and memorable moments there.
Nitin
Dear Sir,
People usually visit Mahabaleshwar to enjoy the cool weather as it is the Queen of Hill stations in Maharashtra. Darshan is usually associated with praying and visitin temples et al.
In Old Mahabaleshwar there are 2 very ancient temples. But the crowds are less here. You can visit the temples from morning till evening. You can perform pujas and abhisheks etc whenever u feel. You need to get hold of a brahmin ( there are few in Old Mahabaleshwar and nearby the temple areas. ) Need not worry about timing et al. Incidently most people offer prayers in the big temple of Lord Shiv-shankar.
Please be specific if you have some other temple on your mind.
Nitin.

Dear Shruti,
If you really want to enjoy Mahableshwar maximum you need
at least three days.
One day you can spend going around all points in
a cab who will take you in a guided tour. You need another day to
visit Panchgani and the beautiful table land.
In Mahableshwar boating in veena lake is one of the most exciting experience.
Shopping in the Mahableshwar market is a must . Totally three full days are needed to
enjoy the beauty of the twin Mahableshwar and Panchgani in a relaxed
manner. Please visit Mahableshwar only after
september as monsoon rain is very heavy and all the activities are
closed in monsoon.

Dear Pran,
regards!
Monsoons is the new sensation in Mahabaleshwar. Earlier tourists rarely visited the hill station during monsoons but since last few years, it has become a craze to be in Mahabaleshwar during rains. Go ahead you will definitely enjoy the cloudy weather and the green surroundings at this time of the year.
Do not forget to carry woollens - nights could be very chilly and cold. Carry enough cloths as you might get drenched even if the showers are passing by.
If you are driving a vehicle - be very very alert and cautious. The roads become bit slippery particularly at high altitudes. And also be very alert when you are near those tourist "points" ( many points are at the edge of the mountains and there could be very very gutsy winds which will create trouble while you stand there).
Wish you a very happy tour there!

Monsoon atmosphere in Mahabaleshwar is truly breathtaking. You will be swirling clouds and dense fog when it rains. It is shivering cold but enjoyable. In fact people from Pune and Mumbai has made it a hugh monsoon destination in the last few years. Earlier nobody used to visit Mahabaleshwar during monsoons - ofcourse travel and road conditions were very very bad at that time.

Dear RAJENDRAK,
regards!
There may be heavy rains when you visit Mahabaleshwar during mid-july. It is monsoon period so if you enjoy being in heavy and foggy rains, definitely this is the time to be in Mahabaleshwar. You must carry wollens with you as rains will change the weather in a very very chilly and cold atmosphere. If you got drenched in the rains, you must change the cloths and wear wollens and must eat and/or drink very hot food items. Travelling while it rains is difficult as the the town is at the top of ghat sections.
So if you like rains - go there or simply change your dates!!

Dear riteshchouhan,
regards!
From Navi Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is about 6 hours drive or so. There are two routes by which you can travel.
1.
take to Mumbai to Pune expressway. After Pune, continue on the Kolhapur highway. Just after Shirwal village, you will come to Surul phata ( cross roads). From here go to Wai town and keep travelling. You need to cross the Pasarani ghat sections and you will reach Panchagani. Travel further and you will be in Mahabaleshwar.
2.
take to Goa highway from Panvel. Pen - Wadkhal naka ( take a left turn here and be on Goa highway) - Nagothane - Kolad - Mangaon - Mahad - Poladpur are few important and well known towns on the route. At Poladpur take a left turn - travel through the hugh ghat section and you will reach the top in Mahabaleshwar. Do remember to fill your tank at Poladpur. No petrol pumps between Poladpur and Mahabaleshwar. Goa highway is not spacious one but if you can be alert while driviing, it is very scenic route.
Wish you happy moments !!
Dear skyadav,
regards!
Ancient temples at Old Mahabaleshwar, Venna Lake are two most beautiful spots in Mahabaleshwar.
Bombay Point, Arthurs seat are must visit points amongst the many points.
Pratapgad - the majestic fort of King Shivaji is worth a visit. Keep half a day for this. If you can spare some more time, do visit the Wai town at the footholds of the Pasarani ghats ( Mahabaleshwar - Panchgani - Wai is the route). The town is historical and has few places worth a visit. Try visiting Dhom dam from Wai. There is a very old palace of Nana Phadanvis enroute. And beautiful old temples near the Dam.
Wish you all happy moments there.

The polo ground is on Raj Bhawan Road. The landmark is Bombay Point.
What you can do is hire a taxi or better still a horse and ask them to take you to the polo ground. If you are driving your vehicle, then ask the directions for Bombay Point. It is located on Mahabaleshwar to Mumbai road ( road going towards Poladpur - Mahad - Mumbai).
