From hyderabad, take early morning Kingfisher Flight for Guwahati via Kolkata and you will reach Guwahati around 12 noon.From the airport share taxi for Shillong is available @ 300.00 per person and it will take 3 hours to reach shillong.

Hi,

To reach Shillong from Kolkata,

1. You can fly upto Guwahati and can avail the share taxi @ INR 300 from the airport for Shillong.

2.If you tarvel by train, then get down at the Guwahati Railway station and come out in the Paltanbazar Side of the station and ask anyine where the Paltanbazar Police Station is as next to the same is Guwahati Shillong Taxi Stand which will take you to Shillong @ INR190 per person.Full taxi will cost you INR750.

3,There is 1 flight in the evening from Kolkata .please crosscheck as they get rescheduled from time to time.

There are several places in Shillong worth visiting.

Shillong Peak:- Shillong peak is located at a distance of 10 kms from the center of the city at the scenic southern limits of Shillong. A magnificent view of the Himalayas can be seen from the peaks when the skies are clear. A panoramic view of the scenic landscape and the city can be seen from the peak. In the evening the city lights from the top appear like a star-studded abyss.

Sweet Falls:- The sweet falls are sited at a distance of about eight kms from Shillong. The fall is known for its simple though beautiful elegance. The water falling from the fall resembles a straight pencil of water flowing out from a huge water pipe.

Spread Eagle Fall:- The eagle falls are located within the boundary of Shillong Cantonment at the out skirts of the city. The dazzling waterfall give an impression of an eagle with wings spread open and hence it is known as the Spread Eagle Falls.

Botanical Garden:- The Botanical Garden is located downstream of the main wards lake. There at the garden one can also find a wide collection of beautiful, colorful and rare species of birds particularly Tragopan, Pheasant and Wildfowl.

Lady Hydari Park:- A short distance from the Wards Lake is lady Hydari Park, with a pretty Japanese garden and a mini zoo which includes fauna native to MeghalayaÂ’s forests, such as hornbills, leopard cats and the aptly named slow Loris, a ferret Â– like creature that crawls around as though heavily drugged. The park is situated between the huge grounds of Pine Mount School on one side, the Shillong Rose Garden and the Shillong Civil Hospital campus on the other. The park extends over an area of about a kilometer in length.

The State Museum:- The State Museum is also located in the premises of the State Library. The museum has a nice and huge collection of artifacts of Meghalaya and of north-eastern India in general.

Buses run by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC), ply after every half hour to Shillong from Guwahati. The ticket fares vary between Rs 30 to 100. Buses usually take around four hours with a mid way stop at Nongpoh. In Guwahati, the buses leave from the main bus stand near the railway station. In Shillong, the bus stand is located near Centre Point, the heart of the town.

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi, minimum you will get room in 600Rs per day in a hotel, it would be better if you will take a Room on rent in somebody's home it will cost you less around 5000Rs. in shillong it is difficult to get wheeler on rent that much perioud of time if you will get then also it will cost big. this facility is available in goa not in shillong.

When in shillong, you can visit Mawlynnong,which is designated as the cleanest village in India and from there you can go for a trekking to Root Bridges which are more than 500 years old.

From Pelling,you have to reach NJP Railway station and take train for guwahati.Once you reach Guwahati, get out of the railway station on the PALTANBAZAR SIDE & take the waitign share taxi for shillong.It will cost you 190.00 per person.

Its the cheapest way to reach Shillong.

I am Rupkatha,i need to know about the local transport present in Shillong as well as in Cherapungi.Also i want to know the visiting places in Shilong and Cherapunji.

Hi Rupkatha,

The local transport in shillong is primarily catered by MARUTI 800 cab.It takes 5 people in total(4in back seat & 1in Front) .The minimu charge is INR 5 and the max is INR 20.

The local tour of Shillong & cherrapunjee is being conducted by MEGHALAYA TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION from their Police Bazar office opposite MTC Bus Stand.

Full day local tour of Shillong will cost around INR100 per person and Cherrapunjee will cost INR 150 per person.Local Cab for Shillong tour will cost you INR 400-700 and Cherrapunjee around INR 1300.You can always bergain with teh Cab driver.

Hi,

At the very outset, i would like to reassure of 2000% safety and security when you visit the northeast.

As of Guwahati and Shillong, both the city are safe and nothing to worry.

The transport from Guwahati to Shillong is very interesting and you will travel 100km thru zig zag road and it takes 3hr.

Dont let your childrens take food just before starting the journey to Shillong as Zig Zag road at times can lead to Vomitting .You should also carry light woolen especially for Childrens as sudden rain will bring down the temperature in Shillong.

There is no Landslide problem between Guwahati & Shillong.

Hi, I am planning to cover most of the places in north east & me & my children will be gng alone to all the places. May i know abt the security & risks from Guwahati to shillong. I mean according to you what precautions i should take while travelling. As it is a monsoon season so will thr be any landslide problem on the way. Pls guide me.
