Hi,

Sorry to say that there is no good hotels with lake view there. You may see some hotels with the name having lake view in them probably they are nearer to lake but you won't  get the view of it.

I suggest you to choose Silent Water Retreat .

The following are the places to visit there:-

PungannoorLake Park: Pungannoor Lake Park is the primary object of interest at Yelagiri. The lake is not very big and has a garden as well as miniature zoo as attractions.

Nilavoor Lake: Nilavoor Lake is not very big and more like a pond. The lake takes its name from the village of Nilavoor. The district administration has drawn a big plan to promote the lake.

Swamimalai Hill: Swamimalai Hill is another popular sightseeing destination in Yelagiri. No matter if you are a trekker or a picnicker you will find the place just fabulous.

Jalagamparai waterfalls: This place is a must visit if you happen to be in Yealgiri after post monsoon period. To reach Jalagamparai waterfalls, it takes about an hour from the center of Yelagiri. There is also a trekking option here.

Karadi Malai Hills: This is also an ideal trekking option. It literally means “Bear Hill “in Tamil.

Velavan Temple: Lord Murugan Temple or the Velavan Temple as the locals call it is situated atop a hillock. The temple is located at one of the highest places of yelagiri offering a panoramic view of the entire hill.

Moksha Vimochana Temple: visit this temple if you want to get rid of your sins. The temple was founded by a saint. The atmosphere of the places is quite serene unlike a temple.

Nature Park: Nature Park is one of the best addresses in Yelagiri. It’s actually a theme park, set up in 12 acres area.

14 Hair pin Bends: A total of 14 pin hair pin bends fall on your way on the spiraling ghat road that leads to the top.

Telescope Point: As you make your way up the hill through the famous hair pin bends, just after the 12th hair pin bend there is the “Telescope House”.

Government Silk Farm: The Government silk Farm also known as the Sericulture farm is a place where you can actually see silk worms. It is located at place called Mangalam that is 5 km away
Government Herbal Farm: The Government Herbal Farm is located adjacent to the Punganur Lake. It is maintained by local forest department. Many herbs and shrubs cultivated here forms the ingredients of Ayurveda and Siddha medicines.

Important Note:

Thinks won't available up in the hill are:

1. No credit cards accepted.
2. No cellphone Network
3. No petrolpumps.
4, No liquore.
5. No Fancy stores.

So be prepared and enjoy the nature.

Thank you.

From Chennai to Jolarpet by 102B Chennai - Thirupattur which sarts  in CMBT.
First bus from Jolarpet to Yelagiri is 5:45 am. Similarly first bus from yelagiri to Jolarpet in the morning is 5:30 am.

Last bus from the jolarpet to Yealgiri is 6:30 pm. It's better to go bit ealier than the schduled time as they play depending on the crowd. So it's better don't look for the last bus.

Hi Uma,

You have thre options as follows

1. If you are car grazy take drive from chenai it's best choice as the roads of international standards. You can reach there by 4 hours Max. Normally you could reach there by 3 hours.

2. If you love traveling by public transport take a train from chennai central. following are the trains that will stop at jolarpet from where you can have buses or cars to reach yealgiri.

- Chennai - Blr Passngr

- Kovai Exp

- Brindavan Exp

- Patna Blr Sanghmitra Exp

- Chennai - Jolarpet Yelagiri Exp

Check www.irctc.co.in for latest timetables

3. worst choice is taking bus from chennai. As you well aware of our summuar day time temp.. it would be horible to take a public bus in a day to Vellore. Then you could take a direct bus to yelagiri from there.

4. Last but not least you can give a call to our Customer care executives to book a car from our home to yealagiri and just enjoy the trip..

Now the choice is yours. Enjoy your trip. Thank you for contacting Kiomoi.

Hi,

One of the best way to reach yelagiri is by own vehicle. If you love driving then this is the route for you to relax and enjoy the weekend... :)

Best route comes to my mind is the following one. Which is part of Golden Qutrancle. So you can cruize at 100 and above KM/Hour.

Bangalore - Hosur (45 KMs) - Krishnagiri (90) on NH7 - Vaniyambadi (145)  - Yealagri (~35)

Enjoy the world class roads in india.. In uphill there is no fuel station. So make sure to fuel yourself before going uphill.

Note: Your plastic money won't work in yelagiri. Make sure you have enough cash in hand. No cards..

Good Day.

HI abdul,

There is a lake where you can enjoy boating ( I would suggest being at lake by 9:00 - 9:30 am to avoid the rush after 10 am).

Next one can move 5 km down on main road to reach the valley view point at SwamyMalai. You will have to park the vehicle at temple on left side of road and trek uphill for an hour or so. The trek is enjoyable passing through local farms with fruit trees near you. Do not forget to carry water as there is no water up the hill.

There is also some waterfalls, You can ask your hotel front desk or at boat house for instructions about getting to the Falls.

Have Fun!

Hi Savita,

Nice to see a car grazy like me. It's not only safe and also great. The road is of international standards. It's a great experience to drive to yelagiri. The hill road also of good quality and the climb angle also low. Hence even a newbie can also like uphill driving. So no issues go and enjoy your drive. Yes there are clear road signs from Ranipet toll plaza. Following are the driving directions to help you with

Chennai - Bangalore Highway. Following are driving directions.

1.From Chennai Park, head west towards Poonamallee on Poonamallee High Road 17.4 km
2. At Poonamallee, take Right onto Bypass Road towards NH4 4.5 km
3. Merge onto NH4 and continue towards Ranipet via Thandal, Sivathangal, Kevripak and Walajepet 92.7 km
4. At Ranipet, take Left onto NH46 and continue towards Yelagiri via Kanipettal, Ambur and Vaniyambadi in total about 250 Km

Following are the things to remeber about yelagiri.

1. No Mobile network.
2. No petrol bunks so fill up your tank on the starting of the village road itself( You will find a last bunk on your right few kM from the High Way)
3. No alchohal carry some if you like.
4. No plastic money.. So have enough Hard cash.

For room bookings contact Kiomoi team.

Thank you.

Hi Karan Sharma,

You can come to yelagiri in three ways one by car, two by train or by bus. By car it's a great experience to drive across these roads of international standards.  By train take any train that goes to chennai and get down at Katpadi (Vellor ) station. from there you can get a taxi to reach yelagiri. If you are planning to come by bus choose the route via Housor , Dharmapuri, salem and vellore to yealgiri.

Following are the attractions in the yelagri. Which won't take more than couple of days to visit.

Pungannoor Lake
Nilavoor Lake
Swamimalai Hill
Jalagamparai
Karadi Malai
Velavan Temple
Moksha Vimochana Temple
Nature Park
14 hair pin Bends
Telescope Point
Silk Farm
Herbal Farm

Hi Craig,

Nice to hear that. Yelagiri is just a right choice for that. If you are going by car you can reach there by 4 hours (Excluding chennai traffic hours). I don't see any direct buses from chennai. It is yet to get popular to that level. But the bus journey will eat up your day. So better take a train It is about 3 hours journey.

If you still want to go by bus Take a Bus for Vellore. From there Change for Jolarpet Bus and then for Yellagiri. I am sure it will spoil your entier day. So plan for train and take a car for jolarpet. Mostly they will charge you Rs 500. for that climb but it worth it.
Check out our Kiomoi must do section . Plan your stay by calling Kiomoi.
I personaly recommend Silent Water Retreat and Landmark Hotel. Have a nice time and Best wishes.
Yours
Sundar.

Hi Tharani,

Total Distance: 165 km

Total Time: 3 ½ hours

Bangalore City-> Electronic City-> Atibele-> Hosur flyover->Soolagiri->Krishnagiri Byepass->Krishnagiri toll gate->Krishnagiri Flyover (first)-> Bargur-> Natrampalli-> Ponneri-> Yelagiri Hills

From Bangalore take the NH4. NH4 is part of GQ. The road is silken smooth. After leaving Bangalore your first destination is Krishnagiri that is some 95 km away via Hosur, Kamandoddi and Melumalai After crossing Krishnagiri Toll gate there would be two Flyovers. Cross the first one. As you approach the next flyover do not go over the flyover. Instead take the side road. You will find a junction here. Turn left here.

You are now on NH 46 towards Chennai. After traveling 17 km further you would reach Bargur From Bargur Travel tillNatrampalli on NH 46 After a few Km There is another toll gate. Past the toll gate, follow the road signage carefully. You will come across a school called “Vanni Matriculation Higher Secondary School”. You can see the sign board that reads ‘Elagiri 36kms’. The sign board asks you to take an U turn for Yelagiri.. Take the U turn and continue your journey under a bridge. Be careful not to miss it

You are now into SH 18 that leads to Thirupathur. As you travel continue looking at sign boards on your left. After approximately 7 kms you will find one that reads‘Ponneri 13 kms’ Drive a few yards ahead till you reach a crossing. Here you can also spot a board that is put by Tamilnadu Tourism Department. From this crossing you need to take a left turn towards Ponneri and subsequently to Elagiri Hills. Drive your up through the magnificent Ghat Roads and 14 hair pin bends to reach the top at Athanur Town.

Hi GopinathT,

Following are the attractions in the yelagri. Which won't take more than couple of days to visit.

Pungannoor Lake
Nilavoor Lake
Swamimalai Hill
Jalagamparai
Karadi Malai
Velavan Temple
Moksha Vimochana Temple
Nature Park
14 hair pin Bends
Telescope Point
Silk Farm
Herbal Farm

As you are visiting to vellore take your time to visit the golden temple in vellore which is roughly about 40 km from yelagiri (Either while coming in or going out). If you are planning to visit golden temple make sure you go in the evening as it is too good to watch it with the lights.

You can also visit the Fort and temple in vellor.

Hi

Yellagiri is about 250Km from chennai. It's above 920 M above sea level. It can be accessible from chennai via Bus and train.

But if you have a car you can enjoy the drive it's about 250 Km from chennai. The road is of international standards. Chennai Bangalore Highway.

By Train:- Yelagiri Hills is also accessible by train. Many trains to Bangalore stop at Jolarpet and from there, you can hire a cab to reach Yelagiri. The ideal thing to do is arrange for pick-up transportation in advance with Kiomoi and that's a lot better than breaking your head haggling with the cabbie. Frequent buses come and go from Thirupathur and Jolarpet at the foothills.

By Bus: You can get buses to vellore and take a bus either to jolarpet or vanniyambadi to get a direct bus to yellagiri. but a bus journey will eat into a major part of your day. Driving or taking the train is advisable.

Thanks!

It is for those who love greenery and nature. It's a perfect hide-out for city dwellers who is looking for place to relax. The entry fees vary from as low as 15 to 1500. Of-course 1500 for para gliding.

The few things to make a note about the place is :

It has no mobile coverage.
No credit or debit cards accepted.
No alcohol available
No petrol bunks up hill.(So don't forget to fill your tanks at the approach road petrol bank. Which is on your right when your going from the Bangalore highway).
People are too friendly. as the hill station is group of villages. If you get the help from them you could explore more lovely parts of the nature. :) You could even trek in some places. Thanks for contacting Kiomoi

Hey, Yellagiri is about 250Km from chennai. It's above 920 M above sea level. It can be accessable from chennai via Bus and train. But the you have a car you can enjoy the drive it's about 250 Km from chennai. The road is of international standards. Chennai Bangalore Highway. Following are driving directions. 1.From Chennai Park, head west towards Poonamallee on Poonamallee High Road 17.4 km 2. At Poonamallee, take Right onto Bypass Road towards NH4 4.5 km 3. Merge onto NH4 and continue towards Ranipet via Thandal, Sivathangal, Kevripak and Walajepet 92.7 km 4. At Ranipet, take Left onto NH46 and continue towards Yelagiri via Kanipettal, Ambur and Vaniyambadi in total about 250 Km. Yelagiri Hills is also accessible by train. Many trains to Bangalore stop at Jolarpet and from there, one could hire a cab to reach Yelagiri. The ideal thing to do is arrange for pick-up transportation with Hotels. They charge Rs. 80-100 per head one way and that's a lot better than breaking your head haggling with the cabbie. Frequent buses come and go from Thirupathur and Jolarpet at the foothills. You can get buses to vellore and take a bus either to jolarpet or vanniyambadi to get a direct bus to yellagiri. but a bus journey will eat into a major part of your day. Driving or taking the train is advisable. by Sundar

Yelagiri is a quaint place that can be enjoyed according to the time you want to spend out there. From picnickers in hurry to avid trekkers and the stressed out executives desperate to escape the humdrum of daily life- Yelagiri is the place to be in. However the real charm of this sleepy little Hill station (just 30 sq Km) lies in “doing nothing”. Yes it’s true. There is no fancy stores, no hordes of tourists, no touts nothing. Most of the time you will find the roads empty, (there is only one main road) except for Sundays and holidays. Summers see some crowds arriving here perhaps to beat the scorching heat of the planes. Let’s explore some of the places at Yelagiri.

Hi Prathima,

During summers (March to June) temperature varies from 18°C to 34°C.  Driving on your own is the best option as once you reach Yelagiri, there is not much of transportation available except for some auto rickshaws and cabs. Either you take your own car or hire a cab.

Thanks
