Overview
Assam in North East India is known for its sprawling tea estates and world-famous Assam tea. Dibrugarh is a quintessential Assamese city in the upper regions known for its tea gardens. It also has strong oil, fertilizer, and power generation industries.
Dibrugarh is in the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra valley. The river is wide in this area; hence there are swampy areas and flood plains. It also has highlands and foothills. The soil is very fertile here. The climate is humid sub-tropical, and hence it is very humid in the summers while the winters are cool and dry.

The Bogibeel bridge, the longest bridge in India, almost 5 km long, is in Dibrugarh. It connects Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Drive down the bridge for spectacular views of the river and the landscape.
The 1.2 hectare Jokai Botanical Garden in the Jokai Reserve forest is a short drive from the main Dibrugarh township. It is a living paradise for bird lovers, with many fantastic migratory birds making their way here. You can see rare exotic species like the Crimson Sunbird, Green pigeons, Black-breasted Thrush, and many more. For people who want more, there are elephant rides around the reserve and boat rides too. Joypur Rainforest is a biodiversity forest, thanks to the perennial rainfall in this area. The wondrously tall Halong trees and more than a hundred varieties of orchids are a sight to behold.
Dibrugarh has a well-connected domestic airport with connections to all major Indian cities. Taxis and autorickshaws can take you from the airport to your accommodation. The Dibrugarh railway station is in the heart of the city. Trains arrive and depart from this station to many different parts of the country. It is a convenient option. Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and Dimapur in Nagaland are both transit points for road travel. Private and government buses, as well as taxi options, are available from these two places.
The people in Dibrugarh have a nice blend of traditional and modern lifestyles. It is a multi-cultural place with Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi-speaking people. The indigenous Assamese people here are from the Ahom, Chutia, and Muttock tribes and have cultural influences from South-East Asian countries.
Most Assamese are Vaishnava Hindus who do not worship idols but recite kirtans or chants for prayer and worship. There are also people of Buddhist, Christian, and Islamic faiths living in Dibrugarh.

The popular Assamese dish Khar, a liquid made from burnt, dried, banana peels and then used to make a curry with meat, pulses, and papaya, is served with rice for lunch; Masor Tenga, tangy fish curry with spices, tomatoes, chilies, and lemon; A sweet and sour chutney made from Ou, a local apple, and jaggery; fish cooked in a hollowed bamboo stem.
