Dadra and Nagar Haveli tourism and travel guide

The olden times of Dadra and Nagar Haveli previous to the medieval period remains muddled. In AD 1262, a Rajput invader overpowered the local Koli heads of clan of the area and became the ruler of a place called Ramnagar, which is a small state that included Nagar Haveli in its territory. The county stayed under Rajput rule until the mid-18th century. After that, the Marathas acquired the land. After protracted skirmishes between the Portuguese and Marathas, on 17 December 1779, the Maratha Government allocated the collective returns in a few villages of this territory. The region was fused with the Indian Union on 11 August 1961 as a Union Territory.

Climate/Temperature

The climate of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is warm in summer and pleasant in wintertime. Winter months are relatively cooler and summers are hot and humid. Monsoon season extends from the month of June to the month of September. The rainfall is about 250 to 300cm.

The male population is around 1,21,731 and the female population is roughly 98,720. Local tribal people like Konkans, Warlis, and Dhodias live in small clusters of huts in the villages.

Religions: The province is the native soil of ethnic groups including the Varlis, Dublas, Dhodias, and Koknans who have augmented the civilization of the land with their own mores of folklore and colorful lifestyle.

 

Languages Spoken: The major languages spoken in the region are Bhili and Bhilodi. A small percentage of the population also speaks Gujarati and Hindi.
