Daman and Diu tourism and travel guide

The olden times of Daman and Diu dates back to some 2000 years. Diu gets mention in the olden epic, Mahabharatha that the Pandavas spent sometime here during their fourteen years exile. Owing to its unparalleled exquisiteness, Daman and Diu were often gifted to triumphant kings and princes. From the 8th to13th century, Daman and Diu, which was a part of Goa was a throttlehold of the Chowda Rajputs. After that the Muslims conquered it in the year 1330. After some 200 years, the Portuguese subjugated the land. On 30 May 1987, Goa was bestowed statehood and Daman and Diu, formerly two districts of Goa made a separate union territory.

Climate/Temperature: Daman and Diu are having a pleasing, and lovely climate all over the year. The whole of the region experiences a moderate climate due to the proximity of the sea.  In summer, the beautiful territory of Daman and Diu is sanctified with the cool and calm breeze coming from over the Arabian Sea.  The maximum temperature recorded in the summer season is around 39 degrees C. The temperature falls in winter to nearly 11 degrees C. The average annual rainfall is 1687 mm. Beginning September & culminating May is the perfect period for exploring and fascination of this wonderland, but planning a holiday in monsoon is no less appealing and will evoke a great deal of exhilaration and mirth.

Some significant tourist attractions which can not be missed in Daman and Diu are:

Devka Beach: It has an enjoyment park with a number of colorful fountains and is a place to frolic around.

Nani Daman: It has an ancient church, a fort, and a fishing dock. The lighthouse offers that mystic charm to its lovely beach.

Fort of Diu: Amongst the major tourist attractions in Daman and Diu, the Diu Fort attains a significant position. Kilted by the sea on the three sides, the daunting construction controls the townscape and presents a magnificent view of the sea.

Jampore Beach: The tranquil beach is a perfect place to listen to the murmur of the palm trees and lounge around.

The Daman and Diu islands are apt for the water sports that can be enjoyed in the sapphire blue waters of the sea. The islands are just right for adventure sports like trekking, hiking, river crossing etc.

Geography

As you force off the sandy and dusty region towards the calm wafts of Daman and Diu, you will be welcomed with an affable Gujarati heart, unusual from the long-gone Portuguese aroma of Western Ghats. Even the gangling palm trees are freakily sumptuous, rich in green spheres evenly sprinkled on the candelabra of imperious branches. An erstwhile Portuguese enclave and a picturesque port town, Daman and Diu is situated on the Western coast of India, sandwiched between Portuguese posts of Diu to the north and Goa to the south. The total land area is about 112 sq. km.

Religions: The population of Daman and Diu comprises of Hindus and few Christians and Muslims. The people of Daman and Diu are similar to the people in the bordering Gujarat area. They have the same views and the same customs and traditions.

Languages Spoken: The main languages spoken in the Daman and Diu region are Gujarati and Marathi. English is used as an official language. Some people also speak Hindi.
