How to Reach

Matheran, India’s one of the four pollution free hill station, is situated at a height of 2,625 ft in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Matheran lies at close quarters from Mumbai (100 km) and Pune (120 km). Although Matheran is devoid of any local transportation, there is a Neral–Matheran Toy Trains that eases out commutation for visitors. How to Reach Matheran by Airway: Matheran’s is served with twin advantage of the being in extremely closed tourist circuit to Pune (120 km) and Mumbai (100 km), henceforth implying that Matheran can be accessed through two International Airports of Mumbai and Pune.

Bus: ST buses ply regularly between to Neral

Attractions: Hart Point, Monkey Point, Porcupine Point for the sunset, Louisa Point, One Tree Hill Point, Prabal Fort, ShivajiÂ?s Ladder, Rambagh Point, Khandala, Karjat and Alexander point.

Where to Eat: Gujarat Bhavan is on the way to Charlotte Lake. You can stay there too, but eating there Gujarati Thali is highly recommended at Shabbirs. You need to book a train ticket from Mumbai or Karjat if available or make it boarding from Karjat in any train which leave from Mumbai to coimbatore.Coimbatore is the nearest Railway station to Ooty from where you can take a cab or Bus to reach the lovely hill station. Karjat is very close to matheran by cab 30 minutes journey or come to Neral and take Karjat local.If you plan to take a flight than you have to take Mumbai Coimbatore flight and onward cab or Bus.

Dear Mr Raut There are local trains between CST and karjat very frequently. Take the local train from Karjat and get down at Neral which will take 20 minutes from karjat and take a cab to reach Matheran which will be another 20 minutes.The toy Train service is also available from Neral to Matheran but Frequency is very poor.

Please reach Matheran only after Hotel booking as summer vacation is going on and on the spot booking will be expensive and will be difficult.

On the top of the hill station Matheran, No vehicles are allowed, one take vehicle upto Dastur Naka also known as Taxi Stand. From here onwards one has to take horse or can walk down/ rather walk up for 1 to 1.5 km for Matheran Hill station Central Point also known as Market.

Walking is really enjoyable. All the points on Matheran hill station is with in walkable distance (Maximum 3 kms).

Not allowing vehicles keep Matheran pollution free, it is good efforts by local municipal council.

Matheran is one of the tiny hill station near Neral an hour and half from Mumbai. No Vehicle is allowed beyond central car park and then there is a climb to hill station. There are lovely points to see and enjoy but you cam move on horse or walk down. its refreshingly different. Food is superb in every hotel. its mumbais favourite weekend retreat along with Lonavala.

At this time that is 2nd week to 4th week of May, there is no monsoon in Matheran.
Generally Monsoon in Matheran & Mumbai begins after first week of June. By Meterological Dept. it is predicted that this year Monsoon in Mumbai & near by (Matheran etc.) will begins at first week to second week of June 2010.

There is little chance of very very scanty rain fall (pre monsoon showers) in end of May,
Nothing to worry about this pre monsoon rain. No disturbance would cause of this pre monsoon showers, rather one would enjoy this.
