Daman is just 192 km north of Mumbai yet bereft of any of the (ill) influence of this busy metropolis. It does show a lot of the Mediterranean like a charm of Goa but is not crassly commercialized like its brethren with droves of foreigners. You can feel all the old world charm of a colonial India (remember the Portuguese left as late as 1961) here with little disturbance.

The Portuguese influence on these two places stands imminent with the rich architectural evidence. The rich historic past, pubs, quaint fisherman and their songs create the right ambience for the travelers to take a break and escape the cacophony and humdrum of city life.

How to Reach

Attractions

There are various attractions in Daman which attracts tourists from far and near. Some of these places are listed here.

A fort in Daman typically built with a strong influence on Portuguese architecture. Built-in 1559 AD at a time of when the Portuguese hold sway the western coast, the carved archways, Portuguese arms, reminds us of those times.

Another building with a trademark Portuguese style of construction is the Cathedral Church dedicated to Bom Jesus. It is located in the fort area of Moti Daman. The construction of this church was started in the year 1559 but finally consecrated in 1603 AD. The ornamented carved pieces near the altar tell a lot about the Portuguese craftsmanship of those times.

Located towards south towards the border of Gujarat at Moti Daman, Jampore Beach is a pleasant spot. The beach is suited to swimming as there are no hidden currents here. During low-tide, one can walk a long way into the sea. A picnic under the shades of Casurina plantation on the sea-shore is a much-favored activity in the Jampore Beach.

This is a comparatively smaller fort located at Nani Daman. Built over an area of 12,250 sq. it's it is enclosed with high stone walls. The fort has three bastions and two gateways. The fort’s main attraction is a giant gateway that faces the river with a large statue of St. Jerome. The imposing church of our Lady of the Sea is also located within the Fort and is the principal building.

The Devka Beach and Devka Garden are situated at Devka Village, Nani Daman. The long shoreline is the prime attraction at Devka. An amusement park with a musical fountain and a kid`s corner is very popular with the visiting tourist as well as local residents.

The Mirasol lake garden is located near to village Kadaiya in Nani Daman. This artificial lake garden consists of two islands connected with a bridge and also offers boating and dining facilities.

Entry: Rs 10 (adults); Rs 5 (children 3-12) The Daman Ganga Tourist Complex located in the Kanchigam village of Nani Daman.is a unique lake garden integrated with superb facilities for a wonderful day out.

Satya Sagar Udyan is located on the Daman-Valsad Road, very close to the Coast Guard Air Station. The Satya Narayan Mandir is also located in close vicinity to this enchanting garden.

The nearest railhead to reach daman is Vapi you can take any train towards ahmedabad if you r coming by air the nearest airport is Mumbai from mumbai you can either come by road through N.N.No.8 or take train towards Ahmedabad. If you have any queries do get back to me.

hi,

From bangalore, come to mumbai and from there you can catch a train to vapi-the nearest railway head to daman-from vapi catch a cab or auto to daman. You can also hire a cab from mumbai to daman, its only three and half hours drive from mumbai.

Days are generally warm in Daman but Nights remain pleasant. As it is close to the Arabian Sea so it makes the temperature mild. The climate remains ideal for swimming along the crest and fall of the waves.

hi,

You can take a flight to mumbai, from there board a train to vapi and then proceed to daman by a taxi. You can also hire a taxi to daman from mumbai itself.

Daman is only 12km from vapi, the nearest railway head.

Hi Parienda,

There is a ferry service from Vanakbara to Kotla village, from where one can get buses to Kodinar. But there is no ferry service available from Daman to Diu. Tthere are some Govt. buses running from Vapi which is 12Kms away from Daman. They leave at 6:00in the evening & they charge Rs600/- & There is also a direct bus of Gujarat state ST from Daman to Diu, which leaves Daman by 6.00 pm.
